Most of us don’t really think about headlights until we actually need them. One night you just might notice that the light is fading and you desperately need a new one. And since you have to change them anyway, you might consider something new and perhaps a bit different.
Many drivers are now considering LED headlights as they last longer and offer many other benefits, as you can see in this post.
So, are you ready to shine brighter?
How To Swap Headlights For LED Headlights
It’s true that most older cars don’t come with LED lights and they might not have the necessary elements to convert to LED Headlights. In this case, you would need a headlight conversion kit. All cars that were factory-made with halogen headlights can easily be converted with a headlight conversion kit.
Of course, you need to first choose the right type of bulbs for your car. There are two options: single beam bulb and dual beam bulb.
There’s a great selection of headlight conversion kits out there and all you have to do is to pick the one that suits you. When you have the bulb, you should make sure that you have all the parts and that your car is secured – that the engine is off and the car is parked.
You can never be too safe.
Locate your headlight bulbs and gently remove the wiring connector. There might even be a metal clip that you would have to remove before twisting the bulb and removing it.
Then, be careful not to touch the LED lights with your hands but place them in the socket. Then, connect the ballast wiring.
And that’s it! Your new LED headlights are installed.
Before you head out on the road, you should check the position of your lights – you don’t want to blind the other drivers.
Why Get LED Headlights?
Of course, if you have been a content user of halogen headlights for years, you may not see what’s so great about switching to LED. You may have even seen them a few times, but only thought that they were overly blinding.
So, why should you get LED headlights?
Well, for one, they are very bright, which means that you will be able to see every inch of the road in front of you. Everything is clearer and this means that you are safer. For instance, you’d be able to see every detail on the road for the ten meters in front of you and slightly more. You will never run over something because of the darkness – holes and other similar things will be a thing of the past.
LED lights are also very durable. You’ll not have to replace them that often. This means that your own vehicle will be more eco-friendly if such a thing is possible. In essence, they are very practical, more so than halogen lights.
Additionally, they will draw less power from your car than the halogen bulb. For example, an LED bulb would spend 1.4 amps where a halogen bulb would spend 5. Because of this, you can take some tax off your system and your car battery will last a lot longer.
This might be especially important for you if you already have a ton of stuff attached to your car battery, like an amazing stereo, a fridge or anything similar to that.
They turn on instantly and they look really good on any car. It’s like you’re getting an instantly new car.
You’ll also be able to spot your car with ease and have more fun when camping because of these lights.
How To Choose a Good LED Headlight Kit
There are many ways to choose a good LED headlight kit. And of course, there are many different things to consider. For one, you have to understand what type of color temperature will be best for your car. Halogen bulbs have warmer colors, in the range of between 2000K to 4000K. However, LED lights have an entirely different range.
For instance, 3000K will give you a golden shine while 4300 will give you white light with slightly yellow. You’d normally want 6000K which is super white and best on the eyes. But, 4300K would be best in the rain and fog.
So, your choice of headlights will depend on your location.
Then, look at the number of lumens, which signifies the brightness. You want the brightness to be optimum, of course. Every kit should say what is the number of lumens there, so make sure that you pay attention to that.
All in all, LED lights are a great switch from the halogen lights as they offer more brightness and offer numerous benefits with that.
